Özet

Bu çalışmanın amacı, uluslararası öğrencilerin başarılarını etkileyen faktörleri tespit etmektir. Yapılacak tespitler doğrultusunda uluslararası öğrencilerin başarılarının artmasına katkı sağlayacak öneriler sunması açısından bu çalışma önemli görülmektedir. Bu araştırma, betimsel araştırma yöntemlerinden tarama modeli kullanılarak yapılan nitel bir çalışmadır. Araştırmanın evreni 2018-2019 eğitim öğretim yılında Kayseri’de eğitim gören yabancı uyruklu öğrencilerden oluşmakta olup, örneklemi ise 2018-2019 eğitim öğretim yılında Erciyes Üniversitesi ERSEM’de Asya, Avrupa, Afrika, Ortadoğu, Kuzey Amerika ülkelerinden gelerek öğrenim gören 20 kız, 28 erkekten oluşan toplam 48 yabancı uyruklu öğrencilerden oluşmaktadır. Çalışmanın veri toplama aracını araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilmiş ve bir bilim uzmanı tarafından incelenmiş anket formu oluşturmaktadır. Anket formunun içeriğini demografik bilgiler ve açık uçlu sorular oluşturmaktadır. Elde edilen verilerin çözümlemesinde içerik analizi kullanılmıştır. Analiz sonucunda, uluslararası öğrencilerin başarılarını etkileyen faktörlerin aile desteği, disiplinli çalışmak, arkadaş/çevre ortamları, özgüvenin olması ve zamanı iyi değerlendirmenin olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Bu bulgular ışığında, uluslararası öğrencilerin başarılarını etkileyen en önemli faktörlerin ailelerinin desteği, disiplinli çalışmak ve arkadaş ortamları ve çevreleri olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the factors that influence the success of international students. This study is considered important in terms of presenting proposals, which might increase the success of international students, in the light of its results. This descriptive and qualitative study was conducted using the survey model. The study was carried out with 48 international students (20 girls, 28 boys) studying at the ERSEM of the University of Erciyes in the academic year of 2018-2019. A form consisting of six open-ended questions, which were prepared by the researcher and evaluated by an expert for their validity, was used to collect data for the research questions. The form also included closed-ended questions where participants were asked about their demographic characteristics. The obtained data were analyzed using the content analysis technique. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that the factors affecting the success of international students were family support, self-discipline in studying, friends, self-confidence and time management. In the light of these findings, it can be concluded that the most important factors affecting the success of international students are the support of their families, friends and entourage, and also their self-discipline in studying.
